Randy Evans and Dennis Monroe are featured speakers at the upcoming Franchise Finance and Development Conference, March 1-3, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV.  Krass Monroe is a key sponsor of this conference.  The purpose of the conference is to provide resources to help attendees navigate through the economic and financial challenges facing franchise companies in today's current marketplace.  Randy will lead a panel of franchisors discussing "Sponsored Franchise Finance Programs and How to Attract Lenders."  Dennis will present on “Is This Financing Right for My Franchise System?  An In-Depth Discussion of the Different Types of Franchise Financing and the Appropriateness for Companies in Various Growth Stages.”  Ryan Palmer will also be representing the firm at the conference. 


Randy Evans, firm shareholder, will be participating in the upcoming Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Development Finance Summit.  The Summit is being held at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, FL on February 9, 2010.  Randy will be speaking to the Popeyes franchisees on "Financing in the Cracks."


Phillip R. Krass, firm shareholder and head of the firm Litigation Practice Group, will be testifying before the Minnesota State House of Representatives Energy Finance and Policy Division on Monday, February 8, 2010.  He will be addressing House File 1182 and the Removal of Condemnation Exemptions for Public and Private Utilities.   Rod has extensive experience in condemnation and land use issues.


Franchise attorneys, Tom MacIntosh, Jim Wahl and Ryan Palmer will be attending the upcoming 50th Annual International Franchise Association Convention on February 5-8, 2010.  Celebrating 50 years of dedicated service to franchising, the convention is in San Antonio, TX.  Krass Monroe is a convention sponsor of the Business Solution Roundtables session on Monday, February 8th.  Tom MacIntosh, firm shareholder and co-chair of the Franchise, Distribution and Intellectual Property Group, will be a panel moderator on “Effective Use of Financial Performance Representations.”  For further information on the convention, please visit www.franchise.org.

Congratulations to Scott HusabyA firm shareholder and member of the firm Wealth Preservation practice group, Scott has been named a FIVE STAR: Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth Manager for 2010 by MplsSt.Paul and Twin Cities Business Monthly magazines.  More than 35,000 consumers and 3,600 financial service professionals were asked to evaluate wealth managers in the Twin Cities area and Scott was named to the final list.

For the 20th consecutive year, Krass Monroe was a sponsor of the Restaurant Finance and Development Conference, November 9 – 11, at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Randy Evans and Dennis Monroe participated in the presentation “Financing in the Cracks: Alternative Ideas for Raising Growth Capital.”  Dennis also moderated a panel discussion at the annual Restaurant Success Breakfast, “Turning Concepts Into Cash: How Do You Keep the Creative Juices Going?,” where successful restaurant concept owners shared their company stories and highlighted the strategies that have contributed to their success.  Additionally representing the firm at the conference were John Berg, Scott Husaby, Tom MacIntosh, Shanna Strowbridge, Ryan Palmer and Jim Wahl.  

 

Randy Evans was a presenter at the International Franchise Association wednesdaywise Webinar on November 4th from 1-2 pm Central Time.  The webinar topic was "Franchise Financing: Opportunities for 2010."  Also participating on the panel was Scott Pressly, Managing Partner, Van Ness Capital Advisors.   Available to IFA members, you can listen to a podcast available for downloading at www.franchise.org.

 

Dennis Monroe spoke at El Pollo Loco's 2009 national Leadership Conference in Indian Wells, CA on October 27, 2009.  The theme of the conference was Mission Possible: Time for Opportunity and Dennis will be speaking on "Current Trends and Opportunities for Franchise Financing."

 

Jim Wahl, attorney in the Franchise Practice Group, is a featured writer in the Fall 2009 issue of Exploring TOSCA.  Published quarterly, Exploring TOSCA is the Twin Cities only arts by category magazine, and it provides the most comprehensive listing of arts events that take place in the metro and surrounding areas.   Jim’s article is “See Further When Facing New Business Legal Matters.”

 

Jim Wahl and Ryan Palmer, attorneys in the Franchise Practice Group, attended the ABA Forum on Franchising.  The conference was held October 14-16 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  Organized by the American Bar Association, the goal of the forum is to provide high quality educational programs on the legal aspects of franchising.

 

Krass Monroe participated as a corporate sponsor of the Celebration! 09 Burger King® franchisee conference.  The conference was September 30 – October 4, 2009 and provided an opportunity for Burger King franchisees from the Great Lakes, Tri-States, Midwest, New England and Hispanic Franchise associations to get together and discuss important issues affecting their businesses.  John Berg represented the firm at the conference in Palos Verdes, CA.

 

Firm attorneys, John Berg and Ryan Palmer, co-wrote an article for Franchising World magazine.  Published by the International Franchise Association, the article is featured in the September 2009 issue and is titled "Troubled Franchisees: Franchisor to the Rescue?"

 

Dennis Monroe gave a presentation on "Financing in the Cracks" on Tuesday, September 15th at Sysco's "Restaurant Solutions for Today's Market."  The presentation was from 2:00 - 3:00 pm and the meeting was held at 317 on Rice Park in St. Paul, MN.  Sysco is the largest marketer and distributor of food service products in North America, with a distribution network that extends throughout the United States and Canada.

 

Randy Evans and Dennis Monroe, firm shareholders, gave a presentation on franchise financing at the recent Denny’s National Town Hall Meeting in Las Vegas, NV on September 23, 2009.  Randy and Dennis discussed the current state of the financing market and moderated a panel comprised of lenders to the Denny’s franchise community.

Dennis Monroe was a presenter at the SS&G Financial Services Restaurant CFO Bootcamp held September 24-25, 2009 at the Four Seasons in Las Vegas, NV.  He presented on "Tips for Turbulent Times,” and he also participated in a panel discussion on “Best Ideas for Today.”  The Bootcamp provides training for financial executives in the restaurant industry.

Krass Monroe was represented at the International Franchise Association Legal Symposium by John Berg, Tom MacIntosh, Ryan Palmer and Jim Wahl. Held May 17-19, 2009 in Washington, DC, the symposium program focused on exploring solutions to pressing legal and business issues facing the franchise community.  John Berg spoke on "Saving the Franchise Relationship Before Financial Failure - Workouts and Restructuring the Franchise Relationship."   Jim Wahl spoke on "Frequently Arising Issues in Litigation - Analysis of Goals and Objectives of Litigation" and Ryan Palmer lead a round table discussion on "Financing Your Franchisees in the Current Credit Environment:  Legal Issues."

Krass Monroe was a sponsor and three of our attorneys attended the annual Restaurant Leadership Conference held in Scottsdale, AZ on April 20-22, 2009.  The focused sessions were designed to educate key restaurant operators, vendors and suppliers.   Those attending were John Berg, Randy Evans and Dennis Monroe.  John Berg and Dennis Monroe were also featured speakers at a morning breakfast discussing “Tax Strategies for Tough Times.”

 

John Berg, firm shareholder and member of the firm's Corporate Finance and Mergers and Acquisitions practice group gave a presentation on March 24, 2009 to the Minneapolis Chapter of the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors on "Current Legal Issues in Investment Banking and M&A."

Krass Monroe attorneys spoke at the 2009 Buffalo Wild Wings Convention.  The national convention was held March 2-5, 2009 in Orlando, FL.  Firm shareholders, Scott Husaby and Justin Johnson, spoke to the franchisees on Estate Planning and Wealth Preservation issues.   Dennis Monroe, firm Chairman, and John Hamburger of Franchise Times Corporation, addressed the current state of the franchise finance market.

James Wahl attended the 40th Annual International Franchise Association Legal Symposium on May 6-8, 2007 at athe Capital Hilton in Washington, DC.  The program was designed to discuss the law in the context of solving real world franchise business issues.
 
Randy Evans, a partner in the firm Business Law and Corporate Finance – Mergers & Acquisitions practice groups, was the moderator of the Success Breakfast panel presentation at the recent Franchise Finance & Development Conference. This year the conference was at the Marriott Hotel, Mall of America, in Minneapolis on May 14-16.  The conference is a unique professional, educational and networking forum specifically designed for growing franchisors and members of their executive team who want to expand the rate of growth in their franchise systems. 
 
Dennis Monroe was a presenter at the 2007 Restaurant Investment Conference.  Dennis spoke on "Investing in Private Placements" and "Unique Issues When Investing in Franchise Restaurant Companies".   Also representing the firm at the conference was Randy Evans.  The Conference was March 5-6, 2007 at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, NV  and was sponsored by the Restaurant Finance Monitor.
 
The 47th Annual International Franchise Association Convention was February 24-27, 2007 at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, NV.  Tom MacIntosh participated in a panel discussion, "The Do's and Don'ts of Franchise Turnarounds for Large and/or Mature Franchisors" and he led a Business Solution Roundtable session, "Expand Your Brand".   David Hill led a Business Solution Roundtable on "Funding Real Estate Development".  Also attending the Convention from the firm were Jim Wahl and Ryan Palmer.   The convention is one of the premier events in franchising.  For further information visit www.franchise.org.

Tom MacIntosh, Co-Chair of the firm Franchise, Distribution and IP Practice Group, attended the 7th Annual International Franchise Association (IFA) Franchise Appreciation Day, September 25-26, 2006 in Washington, D.C.  IFA members spent time on Capitol Hill educating their lawmakers about franchising issues and concerns.  
 

Randy Evans, a partner in the firm Business Law and Corporate Finance – Mergers & Acquisitions practice groups and Scott Husaby, a partner in the Business Law and Wealth Preservation Practice Groups, were presenters at the Buffalo Wild Wings 25th Anniversary Convention in Palm Desert, CA on February 26, 2007.  “Executing a Successful Exit Strategy” was the session topic delivered to the franchisees. 

 

John Berg, a partner in the firm Business Law, Corporate Finance – Mergers & Acquisitions and Taxation Practice Groups, and Scott Husaby, a partner in the firm Business Law and Wealth Preservation Practice Groups, were presenters at the Upper Midwest Foodservice & Lodging Show (Up Show) at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Minneapolis, MN on February 18th.  John and Scott presented on “Executing a Successful Exit Strategy”. 

 
The 17th Annual Restaurant Finance and Development Conference was held November 13-15, 2006 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.  Dennis Monroe, Chair of the firm, moderated the Success Breakfast panel discussion on Wednesday, November 15th.  Also attending the conference from the firm were Randy Evans, Tom MacIntosh, John Berg, Scott Husaby, and Andy Hall.  The conference is the top financial and development conference in the country for restaurant company owners and executives. 
 
Dennis Monroe presented at the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) National Restaurants Conference in Las Vegas, NV June 26-27, 2006.   Dennis made two presentations: "Financing for Growth" and "Legal and Financial Implications of Investing in Franchise Restaurants". 
 
Dennis Monroe spoke at the SS&G Financial Services' Restaurant CFO Bootcamp.  The course was held at the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas, NV from June 21-22 2006.
